About Course

The segment has 3 sessions. The learning points are delivered via 6 real-life stories in Sessions 1 and 2. Session 3 will be a bible case study with application suggestions for pastors and leaders.   

Session 1 covers knowing how individual conflicts can hurt the Body of Christ; conflict management in a SDAT framework (Strengthen, Detect, Attend & Treat); basic interest-based mediation techniques that pastors/leaders should know; 3-real life case studies.

Session 2 covers what to do when caught in the middle of conflict; ‘failed’ mediation and church discipline; is your church strong enough to survive a ‘kill risk’ conflict; 3 real-life case studies

Session 3 covers a biblical case study of Paul’s approach to conflict management in Philippians 4; common issues facing churches (Money, Power Imbalance, Poor Communication); Paul on building a culture of peace & practical application for the local church (SDAT).

Instructor:  Mr Ernest Lau

With over 20 years of professional legal experience, Earnest has, in the past, conducted several ‘Christian Mediation Skills Training’ courses for Trinity Theological College. He is currently a speaker for the Anglican Clinical Pastoral Education Programme on their ‘Conflict Management’ module. Earnest, together with his wife Mingli, attends St John’s-St Margaret’s Church, and they also serve the local and wider Church in the area of music.
