About Course

Autism in the moderate to severe spectrum often gets misunderstood in public. In the event when the child throws a tantrum in public and goes into a meltdown, it is often perceived as bad behaviour and parents get criticised. Living with a child of any kind of special needs is tough. They go through prolonged emotional, mental and financial strains. Many also experienced conflict within the family and with others. Churches are sometimes at a loss on how to help or support these families. How to better understand persons with special needs? How can we help families who have children with Special Needs to find hope in Christ?

Instructor:  Revd David Teo

David Teo is a Priest with the Diocese of Singapore. He is the Pastor of Chapel of Christ our Hope, a church that seeks to embrace persons with autism with their families into the life and mission of the local church. He is also involved in the Chaplaincy work at the St Andrew’s Autism Centre and the St Andrew’s Adult’s Home for those on the moderate to severe spectrum.

The course is beneficial for all to understand autistism and how to support the special needs. The instructor imparts his understanding, knowledge and application in this area. What strikes me is not his knowledge, but his down to earth empathy and experience on autistic child and families, and very good insight to the feeling and emotional needs that these families really look forward to.
