LITURGY

Revd Canon Terry Wong, Vicar of Marine Parade Christian Centre, undertook a project in
partnership with St Peter’s Hall to develop the PRAYDOS LITURGY APP that achieves the
following objectives:

  • OLers access to the Diocesan liturgical resources (normally confined to printed
service books or PowerPoint slides) to everyone
  • Encourages regular praying of the Daily OLice (Morning and Evening Prayer)
  • Automates the insertion of the appropriate Collects, Psalms and Scripture
readings according to the Provincial Lectionary (which updates every year)
  • Enables variation of sections of the liturgy between diLerent sources (Book of
Common Prayer 1662 and Diocesan Service Book 1995)
  • Allows service orders to be readily printed or distributed as soft copies
  • Allows the liturgy to be translated into multiple languages (Chinese, Thai, and
other Deanery languages in the pipeline)

The PRAYDOS LITURGY APP started out as a website, and has now evolved to include
mobile apps. So here are the 3 ways to use the app:

LIBRARY

For many years St Peter’s Hall held a modest collection of books in a little SPH library. However, in recent years the usage of the books in the library (by seminarians and alumni) was observed to be minimal. The main reason was that most of the SPH collection was already available in the Trinity Theological College (TTC) Library right next door, which has an impressive range of over 100,000 books and is reputed to be among the top Christian libraries in the region! Another reason was the pivot to using online
resources (i.e. digital books) that was accelerated by the Covid pandemic. For these and other pragmatic reasons (like needing space for our expanding staL team) a decision was taken by the SPH leadership to convert the library into oLice space. Most of the books in our collection have been or will be donated away. For members of our Diocese who would like to access certain Christian or Anglican resources, we
recommend exploring the following options:

Trinity Theological College Library

A physical library of over 100,000 books, which can be browsed or borrowed with a valid membership (available to alumni and guests).

Perlego Online Digital Library

A digital library of over a million books, of multiple disciplines (not just Christian), all accessible with a single paid membership.

CANONS

The Canons of the Province of the Anglican Church in South-East Asia, first published in 1998, were adapted with permission from The Canons of the Church of England (Church House Publishing, fifth edition, 1993).

This document forms a key component of the legal framework governing the operation of the Anglican Church, the other key components being the Constitutions of the Province, Diocese, Parishes etc. The Canons contain the following sections:

Section A: The Anglican Church in the Province of South East Asia
Section B: Divine Service and the Administration of the Sacraments
Section C: Ministers, Their Ordination, Function and Charge
Section D: The Order of Deaconesses
Section E: The Lay OLicers of the Church
Section F: Things Appertaining to Churches

This is a highly recommended website containing hundreds of animated video summaries of biblical books and biblical themes. A great resource for bible study leaders, preachers and anyone wanting to get a quick overview of a biblical topic.
